Northern Gauteng U/23 Ladies Action Netball

I had the privilege to be part of the Northern Gauteng U/23 Ladies Action Netball team, at the Overs and Unders Inter Provincial Tournament, which was held at the Vaal Arena in Vanderbijlpark.  Western Province, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, Eastern Gauteng, Southern Gauteng, Central Gauteng and Vaal also represented their provinces at the Tournament.   During the tournament a South African team was selected, in certain ages, to represent the country in Australia later this year.  Therefore the tournament consists of both 6- and 7-a-sides. A7bWe kicked off the tournament with 6-a-side which is slightly different to what we are used to.  6-a-side is usually played in countries like, Australia, New-Zealand and England; therefore it is a new experience for South Africa and for most of the players.  After three days we ended up playing in the Brons final against Kwa-Zulu Natal and won the match! The next day we started off with the more familiar 7-a-side games.  Like any other team our main goal at the tournament was to be crowned the best in our age category, but for this to happen each player in the team needed to give their best and play together as a team.  After a few tough games we went through to the Gold final against Eastern Gauteng. With only one game left in the tournament and the chance to be crowned the champions, our hearts were in our throats.  It was a nail biting experience for the team, our coach as well as the spectators.  With only one minute left of the game the score was levelled at 36 goals each.  We stood together as a team and overturned the ball so that the winning goal can be scored.  At last our dream came true, to be crowned the U/23 Ladies 7-a-side Champions of the 2015 Tournament!
